Hitachi's New 18" Flat Panel Display Features New S-IPS Technology

Sets new standard for low color shift and increased color accuracy.

CML181

Westwood, Mass ––  January 7, 2002 –– Hitachi America, Ltd., a subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE: HIT) today announced an 18” flat panel display featuring Hitachi’s proprietary S-IPS technology that sets a new standard with almost imperceptible color shift and increased color accuracy. S-IPS technology builds on Hitachi’s multiple award-winning STFT technology and enables crisp text, true colors, and sharpest, distortion-free images at viewing angles of 170 degrees, in both horizontal and vertical directions.

With its excellent color reproduction, clarity and quality, the CML181 display is an ideal choice for demanding users in imaging or business applications who want to conserve desktop space but require top high-quality text and images. The CML181 provides all the advantages of an LCD with the wide viewing angles and consistent colors of a CRT. It is the first technology that provides ‘the best of both worlds’ and is one of the most advanced LCD technologies available on the market.

“This is truly an amazing new product,” said Leslie Bishop, marketing communications manager of the Hitachi America, Ltd. monitor group. “We demonstrated the CML181 at the recent COMDEX conference and exposition and received much interest from attendees. Hitachi’s S-IPS technology was very obviously head and shoulders above most other LCDs, so much so that many visitors immediately identified the difference.”

S-IPS (Super IPS)
Hitachi’s Proprietary award-winning S-IPS technology, - an upgrade to Hitachi’s multi-award winning S-TFT technology- employees a “zig-zag” electrode structure to improve images clarity and reduce color shift regardless of viewing angle. This zig-zag structure arranges the molecules to compensate for color shifts at certain angles at which whites can appear slightly blue or yellow. By angling the orientation and arranging the color shifts to compensate for each other, Hitachi S-IPS technology achieves sharp, high contrast images with minimal smallest color shift.

The CML181 uses an advanced smoothing algorithm for significantly improved text and solid graphics at non-native resolutions.

High performance design
The CML181 display features 235 nit brightness and a 300:1 typical contrast ratio with a prime and maximum resolution of 1280 x 1024 at 60 or 75 Hz for analog and 60 Hz for digital. Pixel pitch is .28 mm. The CML181 provides a full 18” viewing area (359x287 mm) with minimal glare and almost no emissions. It features analog and digital inputs as well as integrated speakers, volume control on the bezel and an integrated headphone jack.

PC & Mac (analog only) compatible, the CML181 features an auto-adjust function to quickly and accurately produce beautiful, distortion-free images. The panel meets the VESA FPMPMI (Flat Panel Monitor Physical Mounting Interface) standard, which enables wall-mounting with third party mounting arms. It also features a Kensington Security Port.

The TCO ’99 approved CML181 uses less than ˝ the energy of most comparably sized CRTs. The panel weighs 14 lbs and has a 30 mm left and right bezel width. The CML181 comes with a 3 year warranty. It is available for immediate shipping from Hitachi distributors worldwide with an MSRP of $999.
