Hitachi is a world leader in innovations dealing with electronics and in the field of displays it was one of the first companies to bring out the IPS or In Plane Switching Display into the market by patenting it in 1995. This technology at the time of unveiling held a lot of potential and was proven to be the future of display units at the time when LCDs and LEDs were taking center stage. The problem of such displays is that the viewing angle is limited and therefore a person seeing the display unit from the sides is treated to a less vivid image from the screen that lacks in contrast as well as in color perception.

With the use of IPS technology this issue is resolved as the drop in both contrast and color is marginal. The technology took a good ten years to finally become commercially viable to include in consumer electronic devices. However, now that the technology from Hitachi Display is finally up for grabs, it seems that many other electronic manufacturers are commissioning the research into their own product lines. From cameras, phones to televisions almost all these display units now feature the best IPS technology that was devised and perfected by the research labs of Hitachi Display.

The added advantages of a slimmer screen with lesser weight also made this technology perfectly suited to the world of cell phones and camera screens as reduction in weight and size is a leading proponent of the two markets. Hitachi’s research labs spread all over Japan were monumental in perfecting this technology and can be directly accredited for the IPS technology.
